This is the first of what I hope will be many entries on my take on life, from an engineer's perspective. Let me begin with a bit of an introduction. My name is Nathan Armstrong. I studied electrical engineering for three years before switching to and graduating in mining engineering. I have taken classes in just about every engineering discipline and so I understand what many engineers go through to graduate. I have now worked as an engineer in industry for almost a year. My experience there is lacking as far as time goes, but already I have done quite a lot for the company I work for.
I am establishing this baseline so you will understand the premise for my creating this blog and writing entries that I hope will become chapters in a book. Yes, I have set a goal to write a book. I certainly enjoy writing so it seemed like a natural goal. But what to write about?
As I have been pondering what I should write about, it just didn't seem right that I attempt to write about engineering, math, or even mining. There are plenty of books already written on those subjects. And while I humbly admit that I have a good depth of understanding in my given field, I don't think my target audience would have any interest in reading about rock mechanics or operations research.
Who is my target audience? Well, mostly engineers, but really this is for anyone just trying to understand engineers. We are unique set of people with characteristics that set us apart from a lot of other disciplines. We are not above or below, just different. We go about life differently and this often leads to humorous conflicts with others, at least in my own life. You will find that for most of my writing I will draw from my own experience.
My first book I have decided to write is called "An Engineer's Guidebook to Dating." Yes, I am going to tackle the subject of dating from an engineer's perspective. Engineers date differently. This fact has led me to quite a list of humorous stories about the good, the bad, and the plain nerdiness of engineers.
I plan to write at least one entry every month. I appreciate as much feedback as possible, including stories from your own experience. I will take all the feedback and with permission, incorporate them into chapters of a book I plan to eventually write. By commenting or emailing, I am assuming permission to use that feedback to further the writing of my book. You may email me at engineersguidebook@gmail.com. All names are changed to protect those about whom the stories are written, except my own name of course.
I hope to have my first entry ready by the end of March. Stay tuned. I am hesitant to begin this project because it is difficult to gauge myself as a writer. But with your help, hopefully my goal of writing this book will be realized. I am also using this blog to stay motivated. I have intended to write this book for quite some time, but have just not found the motivation. And thus, it begins...

Fantastic start. Don't blog-fade. You're coming up towards the end of March, I expect my entry so I can understand you engineers as I now manage a bunch of them.
